I am pleased to announce the availability of software for COLOR SIFT.
The software is based on the original
code kindly provided by David Lowe. The SIFT descriptor basically
characterizes the local edge distribution
around keypoints. Extension to color sounds straightforward: just
consider color gradients, rather than intensity
gradients, and put this into the Gaussian derivative framework.
However, one can make many choices to define
color gradients. I choose to provide the few useful choices (among
many alternatives), which have been descriibed and evaluated in a
paper by Burghouts and Geusebroek, CVIU, in press. Performance has
been evaluated in the TRECVID video retrieval benchmark and
VOC-PASCAL object categorization challenge.
TRECVID, yielding excellent results.
